It's easy to talk about women's rights in general, but focusing on an individual makes people pay attention

SheDecides came to use with a shocking statistic: 76% of women and girls aged 15-49 have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Burkina Faso.

To highlight this and drive change at a community level, we told the fictional story of Mariam - a 15 year old girl who discovers the horrors of FGM taking place in her community.

We told the story with a single line flowing through the animation to highlight the thread that connects Mariam to all women fighting for bodily autonomy. Mariam's moving journey takes her from awareness to activitism, to mirror the journey our viewers should go on, as she discovers support that exists in her community and raises awareness with her peers.

The films launched SheDecides 16 days of activisim on social media driving support around the globe.
