Research Ecosystems
Association of Medical Research Charities
The Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), representing the charity sector, collaborated with public funders (NIHR, MRC) and industry bodies (ABPI, BIA) to commission an animated video clarifying the complex UK research ecosystem. Their primary goal was to educate policymakers on the vital, distinct contributions of charity, public, and industry funders. By simplifying how research ideas become patient benefits, they aimed to showcase the interdependence of the sectors and the power of collaboration. The ultimate aim was to foster greater understanding, acknowledgement, and support for the entire research landscape.
We developed a concise animated explainer. The art direction employed colourful, textured, 2D illustrations with detailed characters and scenes, brought to life with smooth, natural animation. Referencing styles liked by the client, we visually translated the complex journey from healthcare need to collaborative solution. Key concepts like funding streams were represented by distinct icons, and the animation flowed through representations of research activities, infrastructure, and clinical trials, demonstrating the distinct inputs and collaborative network across the UK
The final animation effectively translates the complex research ecosystem into an accessible and engaging narrative. It visually represents the distinct yet complementary roles of charity, public, and industry funding streams. The video was designed for use on websites, social media channels, and events. Assets were created to be easily repurposed for ongoing communications
